'Don't sit on the problem have a PSA blood test'

Ask Your Doctor For a Simple Blood Test it only takes 10 minutes

Men over the age of 50 are at risk from Prostate Cancer and 32,000 men a year are diagnosed, this figure is increasing and 10,000 of those men will die. Next to breast cancer this is a major problem and we feel not enough is being done to screen men on a regular basis. It is also anticipated that the future will only show an increase in the number of cases due current lifestyles. Our main objective will be to establish a screening and prostate cancer awareness program for men in the age group 50-plus years of age. It has been recognized that males in this age group have a fear of talking about this subject or going to their doctors for check ups because of the prostate location or simply just do not want to know if they  have cancer. Our aim will be to show that regular blood testing will pick up possible cancer activity through PSA (Prostate Specific Antigens) levels. With further diagnostic tests the cancer has a greater chance of treatment if identified early giving the patient improved quality of life, extended life expectancy and the greater likelihood of a cure.

The current system is too late. Only when symptoms appear are doctors able to help. We believe early diagnostics will help save lives by giving men more time to get treatment, cancer cannot be cured but can be contained if caught early enough, prevention is better than a cure.  It is important to note that at the advanced stage it is very difficult to give a positive life expectancy and is the main reason men see no hope. In recent months the press and media has reported on the poor state of the Welsh Health Service and in particular the slow response to specialist cancer treatment. It has also been highlighted that prostate Cancer has not been given the same funding as breast cancer and is generally accepted as being ten years behind in both research and a reliable testing procedure.

We are currently talking to the Mens Heath Forum and Cancer Research charities with a view to be associated with their activities and aim to educate men and their partners or wives through exciting new ideas running alongside the normal fund-raising activities.
